Art4Health Social Prescription Services offers arts and heritage wellness programming for those seeking to use creative and expressive processes as a means of coping with life-stressors.

​On the pages that follow, you will find art-making prompts, guided activities, inspirational quotes/images and links to heritage-based storytelling videos which provide a demonstration of what our services entail. ​

- What is Social Prescription -

  • "Social Prescribing is a means of connecting (individuals) to a range of non-clinical services in the community to improve their health and well-being" (WHO, 2022, para. 1).
  • ​"(It) is about listening deeply, providing necessary supports, and empowering people to be co-creators in improving their own health and wellbeing" AFCO, 2019, para. 2).
  • "(Social Prescribing) builds on the evidence that addressing social determinants of health such as socioeconomic status, social inclusion, housing, and education is key to improving health outcomes" (WHO, 2022, para. 1).
  • It empowers (individuals) to improve their health by developing new skills, participating in meaningful activities, and becoming more connected to their communities" AFCO, 2019, para. 2).​

- The Service Providers -

The Sault Ste. Marie Museum
The Museum acts as both host and storyteller of local heritage and social programming. A cultural hub, they create spaces of sharing through education and preservation of artifacts. 
The ArtSpeaks Project
​ArtSpeaks​ provides art-based guided experiences of self-discovery and reflection. They offer non-clinical art-as-therapy experiences via free-access community-based art-making in-person and online.
