Art4Health session offerings at Sault Area Hospital:
The Mental Health & Addiction Program has engaged Maria Parrella-Ilaria, AOCA, BFA, MA - visual artist • arts educator • art therapist - to facilitate small group art therapy sessions for SAH staff/leaders to help address and alleviate the stressors related to the Covid-19 pandemic including, but not limited to, social isolation, chronic worry/anxiety, compassion fatigue, and the impact of vicarious trauma as a result of treating members of our community as they struggle with a variety of medical/mental health issues amplified by the Covid-19 pandemic—specifically, in responding to and attempting to contain our ever increasing opioid crisis/epidemic of opioid related overdoses.
As these sessions will be limited to small groups of 5 participants per session—smaller groups being most effective therapeutically as well as necessary in adhering to Covid-19 protocols—eighteen sessions will be offered over three months. Knowing that staff/leaders work a variety of schedules, participants are invited to attend as many sessions as they can/need. Activities will be very much group lead and one can jump in mid-stream if need be.
